Jamie Keddie's Videotelling for Video Analysis Activities

Hi guys!!

Do you think media in teaching and learning process is very important?
What is the media that you usually use in your teaching and learning process?

In Indonesia, English becomes the foreign language that has important role to the teaching and learning process but there are some common problems. The first problem is from teacher. Many teachers are not confident about the best practice to teach English. In second problem teaching English to children is different for teaching English for teenagers and adults.  The solution about the problems are you have to choose the best technique and media to teach English for your students. Videotelling is one of the best tool that you can use it.

What is videotelling? Videotelling is video + storytelling for the Youtube generation. Jamie Keddie is the person who share this media. He shares a classroom technique for bringing storytelling to the Youtube generation. Some of his tips while using a videotelling activity include:
1. Ask to open questions (What's your bunk bed story?)
2. Don't be precious about the answers you want to elicit.
3. Don't be teachery. If the teacher gets an answer he/she doesn't like or want, he/she might say "yes"  in a very peculiar tone and imply through paralinguistic means that this is the wrong answer.
4. Give some students space to elaborate and justify their answers. Be open to some students' ideas.

I think this tool is very interesting and useful for students because it can improve the foreign language, it saves time and it is very simple and enjoyable.

Guys, I do not find any weakness of this tool because this tool is very easy to use it.

When I become a teacher, I will use it for teaching my future students. I only need choose the level, topic and material.I hope many teachers will know this tool and use it for teaching and learning process.

If you interested with this tool you can open this website http://lessonstream.org/topic/animals-pets/

After, you read my post. What do you think about this tool? Do you have another opinion about this tool? Please give your comment.

Thank you

  1. Hi kak! At first I read this post, I love the way you introduce the tool you chose. I also chose the same thing which is Jamie Keddie's Videotelling. I agree with your opinion that this tool can be very enjoyable for the students, especially for those who learn English as their foreign language.
    Keep up kak!
    God bless you.

Why the Recap is Useful for English Learners and Teachers?

Hi friends.. This is my second post after I made this blog. Now I want to discuss about "Why the Recap is Useful for English Learners and Teachers?". Before that, please read this ELT Blog  >>>>>  https://nikpeachey.blogspot.co.id/  When you in the classroom, have you ever felt your teacher's materials are too difficult or too easy?  Or have you ever felt your teacher explanation is too fast or too slow?. When you have ever felt that, so what do you do?. You talk about your teacher with your friends? or what? I think it is better if you talk about that with your teacher. You give feedback or reflection for your teacher. So, your teacher will know about what you felt or your problem when the teacher gave materials and explained it.  Because now technology is very develop, you can say your feedback/reflection using recap application. The advantage of this application is you can say anything about your feedback/reflection about y...

Now, in my first blog I will share about Flipped Classroom and TED Ed. What is that? Let's read my post until finish. :) What is flipped classroom? A flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom.  *Now, I hope you know what is flipped classroom before I talk about my experience.                Friends, I do not have any experience about flipped classroom because the teachers that have taught me still used traditional and standard method to teach the students. I think flipped classroom is very us...

SAMR Model

Hi guys!!!                        This is my last assignment of CALL subject. In the last assignment, I would like to share about SAMR. What is that? Let's me give you the explanation.                        SAMR is a model designed to help educators infuse technology into teaching and learning. SAMR has four levels: 1. Substitution     Teachers or students are only using new technology tools to replace old ones. (MS Word) 2. Augmentation     We are still in the substitution mentality but this time with added functionalities. (Blog, Google      Docs). 3. Modification     This is the level where technology is being used more effectively not to do the same task using     different tools but to redesign new parts of the task and transform students learning. 4. Redefinition   ...
