SAMR Model

Hi guys!!!

This is my last assignment of CALL subject. In the last assignment, I would like to share about SAMR. What is that? Let's me give you the explanation.
SAMR is a model designed to help educators infuse technology into teaching and learning. SAMR has four levels:
1. Substitution
Teachers or students are only using new technology tools to replace old ones. (MS Word)
2. Augmentation
We are still in the substitution mentality but this time with added functionalities. (Blog, Google
    Docs).
3. Modification
This is the level where technology is being used more effectively not to do the same task using
different tools but to redesign new parts of the task and transform students learning.
4. Redefinition
Students use technology to create imperceptibly new tasks. (Video)

Below, I will use a modification of a lesson plan I have made. I put the format from BBC teaching English. In my lesson plan, the students will discuss about the pictures that the teacher was shown, the students will work together to categories the words and phrases under the four headings given, the students will write a paragraph about the topic on their blog, the students will give comment/suggestion to the other pairs, the students will work in pairs to design their own poster and the last the students will present the poster.

LESSON PLAN

Topic                     : Smoking Stinks
Skill(s)                  : Speaking and Writing
Aims                      : - To give attention for the students about many reasons not to smoke.
                                 - To encourage the students' vocabulary related to the topic.
                                 - To develop the students' speaking skill.
                                 - To develop students' writing skill through writing a paragraph.
                                 - To encourage peer feedback and correction writing.
                                 - To develop students' oral fluency as well as their ability to work together to
design a poster and present it to their peers.
Level                      : Older teenagers and adults (11thgrade students of Senior High School)
Time                       : 90 minutes
Materials                : - Before the lesson, the teacher will need to find 4 images from anti-smoking
                                   campaigns.
                                 - Student worksheet
                                 - Poster paper and suitable pens to make a poster if available
Procedure               :
1. Lead-in
    (5 minutes)
·  The teacher shows some pictures about cigarette and asks some questions about it for the triggering questions.
·      The teacher writes of the lesson ‘smoking stinks’ on the board.
·      The teacher explains the double meaning- that smoking smells bad and that smoking is a bad or unpleasant thing.
·    The teacher sees if everyone agrees (they may not!) and elicits some ways in which both meanings might be true.
·   If relevant, the teacher explains that 31st May is the World Health Organization (WHO) No Tobacco Day. Each year the WHO encourages people to give up for at least that day, and tries to raise awareness of the negative effects of smoking.

2. Speaking
    (5 minutes)
·      The teacher shows the anti-smoking images and ask them to discuss the message and which they find most/least effective and why.
·      Briefly feedback as a class. The teacher could also ask students:
- What other posters or adverts they have seen which they thought were
  Effective.
- Whether they think cigarettes should be sold in plain packaging.

3. Vocabulary focus
    (10 minutes)
·     Give out worksheet 2 and ask students to work together to categories the words and phrases under the four headings given.

4. Writing
    ( 45 minutes)
·      The teacher divides the students in pairs.
·    The teacher asks the students to choose one of the four headings and write a paragraph about it, using the vocabulary from the previous stage.
·     The teacher asks the students to write the assignment on their blog.
-   The teacher asks the students to give comment/suggestion for the other pairs blog.

5. Group work
    (25 minutes)
·      The teacher reminds the students about the posters they looked at early and ask them to work in the same pairs to design their own poster, using the guiding questions on the worksheet.
·       The teacher asks the students to print pictures, draw or simply describe them.
·       The teacher asks the students to present their ideas in front of the class.

Why the Recap is Useful for English Learners and Teachers?

Hi friends.. This is my second post after I made this blog. Now I want to discuss about "Why the Recap is Useful for English Learners and Teachers?". Before that, please read this ELT Blog  >>>>>  https://nikpeachey.blogspot.co.id/  When you in the classroom, have you ever felt your teacher's materials are too difficult or too easy?  Or have you ever felt your teacher explanation is too fast or too slow?. When you have ever felt that, so what do you do?. You talk about your teacher with your friends? or what? I think it is better if you talk about that with your teacher. You give feedback or reflection for your teacher. So, your teacher will know about what you felt or your problem when the teacher gave materials and explained it.  Because now technology is very develop, you can say your feedback/reflection using recap application. The advantage of this application is you can say anything about your feedback/reflection about y...
